Located in East Boston, The Stage at Suffolk Downs provided the perfect space for roughly 8,000 attendees to enjoy an absolutely stacked lineup, cut loose, and have a weekend to remember forever. Overall, it was a sick experience unrivaled by any other electronic-focused event in Boston to date.
Thick, healthy grass provided an excellent stomping ground for local adventurers to enjoy an electronic festival, many of which enjoyed their first. Excellent planning led to the inclusion of a roller rink, silent disco, gaming tent, and suitable accommodations that fit the festival's vibe perfectly. At no point did these amenities ever feel out of reach. The Bowery Presents and Breakaway Festival facilitated a safe and secure night. Walkways and dance floors were cobbled together with sturdy walkable pathways that offered both direct access to multiple areas without needing to navigate through crowds as well as solid stomping grounds for shuffling, dancing, gaming, roller-rink-ing, pickleball-ing, and more!
The festival pulled in fantastic sponsors through Happy Valley, Kit Brewing, White Claw, and Beatbox. Happy Valley made their presence known through giveaways of company swag and sponsorships of the festival helping ensure a high-quality event could be pulled off while keeping ticket prices in check. Kit Brewing showcased its fantastic non-alcoholic brews with free samples flowing all weekend long. White Claw helped to provide not only their fantastic beverages at every bar but also sponsored high-end headphones at the Silent Disco, ensuring the best experience possible for listeners. Beatbox also pitched in at the event, providing a Kandi creation station and handing out bandanas, koozies, and fans for all seeking them. Local housing complex Beachmont Square, handed out reusable water bottles and koozies to create awareness for their brand new housing complex, just a stone's throw from The Stage.
An excellent example of how the festival stepped up to ensure the safety of all patrons came about Friday night after water resources were tapped out – water bottles promptly started flowing freely into the hands of attendees. This put on full display Breakaway Festival’s willingness to sacrifice profits for the well-being of festival patrons. Having seen other festivals turn their back in this type of situation, it was refreshing to see The Stage at Suffolk Downs host their community with the kind of care that sets the bar for high-quality event hospitality.
From top to bottom and all the way through the extensive Silent Disco, the lineup for Breakaway Boston was chock-full of energy and legendary names. Griz, Porter Robinson, Elderbrook, Madeon, Lane 8, and more graced The Stage with euphoric sets that kept the crowd moving with hands flying in the air at all times.
Evan Giia laid down a stellar set early on Saturday that set the tone for the epic night ahead. Her family even made the trip out from Denver to come see her play!
The silent disco was a quirky collection of headbanging, shuffling, flailing, singing, and dancing that was a pure joy to experience. Sans headphones, the crowd moved according to one of three available stations, offering a wide variety of music to tune into while on the floor. The White Claw headphones proved spectacular, offering stage-quality sound alongside adjustable volume knobs that allowed for a personal rave experience in absolute comfort.
Overall, this festival was a top-notch event. From entry to exit, the well-organized venue was a pure dream to partake in. Absolute comfort was provided throughout the entire weekend alongside one of the easiest festival experiences I have ever had. Walking through the crowd, an incredible number of attendees noted Breakaway Boston to be their very first festival or Electronic concert, and I couldn’t have been happier to hear so. Breakaway stands in a unique position to bring about the explosion of dance music that Boston has been craving for years. The Bowery Presents, holders of The Stage, The Roadrunner, and The Sinclair have captured lightning in a bottle. Jimbotron Online applauds the efforts taken by both the Breakaway team and The Bowery Presents to keep patrons safe and comfortable throughout an epic weekend at The Stage. We eagerly await our next chance to attend a show from either of these incredible event organizers.
Big thank you to Mr. Jack Young for lending his skills and equipment to Jimbotron.Online to aid with photography for this event.
