Breakaway Massachusettes: Boston's Summer Send-Off!

Updated: Aug 26

Are you excited to break out that Fall wardrobe and escape this wet, hot summer weather? Before you throw on the vest, you still have one more chance to let loose and hear some of the biggest names in electronic music right here in Massachusetts for Breakaway Massachusetts 2024!

Last year, this festival was a top-notch event. From entry to exit, the well-organized venue was a pure dream to partake in. Absolute comfort was provided throughout the entire weekend alongside one of the easiest festival experiences I have ever had. Walking through the crowd, an incredible number of attendees noted Breakaway Boston to be their very first festival or Electronic concert, and I couldn’t have been happier to hear so. Breakaway stands in a unique position to bring about the explosion of dance music that Boston has been craving for years. We've eagerly awaited our next chance to attend a show from Breakaway, and we're thrilled to have the chance this September. Breakaway is expanding to two days this year and has relocated to Worcester for the festivities - and we're in for a wild show. Let's break down the lineup and check out some acts from across the two-day lineup!

Tiësto

The Dutch kingpin of the big room is coming to Breakaway to set the stage on fire. Tiësto is known for his unmatchable club energy, and he knows the secret to unleashing inhibitions with his smooth mixes and masterful song selection. He will hit the stage fresh off his latest single with Afrojack and MC Ambush, slated to release on August 16th. The big room legend will undoubtedly throw down a wicked, fun set and showcase his hardest-hitting bangers in his headlining slot.

Deadmau5

AKA Joel Zimmerman, Deadmau5 is an icon of electronic dance music. He is known best for his unique blend of progressive genres and techno; Deadmau5 goes above and beyond to cultivate intricate live experiences that keep the energy at 110% from start to finish, always seeming to elevate as the clock winds. This year, he is celebrating twenty-five years on stage as Deadmau5 with a series of special events - several earlier this year in Hollywood and NYC and two upcoming Red Rocks shows in November. I most recently saw Deadmau5 at the MGM right here in Boston, and he nearly tore the roof down with an epic set. I can't wait to catch him live again at Breakaway!

Illenium

The king of emotive electronic music, Illenium, will hit the Breakaway stage this September in Massachusetts. Known for his heartwrenching melodies and filthy bass breaks, Illenium brings various sounds to the table with every performance. His music now spans a series of wildly successful full-length album releases, and each takes on a slightly different sound, evolving to fully embrace a euphoric atmosphere that clashes with chaotic bass design. Earlier this year, Illenium threw down his second Trilogy event, performing three sets that focus on his various eras and offer something for each of his fans who found a connection to his music, be that eight or two years ago. There's something for everyone and more at every Illenium set. I am thrilled to see him on this lineup, and I can't wait to let loose during his set!

Big Gigantic

Colorado-based funky power duo Big Gigantic is a name that makes waves on festival lineups. Their unique funk and bass blend harkens back to classic Griz soundtracks and keeps the sax alive on the electric dance stage. Big Gigantic can get the crowd moving, grooving, and losing it from the first drop to the last, and I'm pumped to have another chance this summer to catch such a dynamic duo again. Big G will be gearing up for a huge performance at Red Rocks in late September, and you can expect them to bring the heat to the Breakaway stage as they pull out all the stops to bring their set to the next level.

CHYL

Speed house meets phonk when the up-and-coming star, CHYL, hits the stage. Her intense sets maintain high BPMs and utilize modern trap influences to raise the hype even higher. She will blow your socks off as you bounce and jump out of them. Her non-stop energy is infectious and certainly has the potential to blow the roof off the Breakaway stage as the day gets rolling. Be sure to come in on time to catch this insane party to get your body movin' and heart rate rocketing!

Levity

What do I really need to tell you about Levity? This Chicago-based duo is on a rocket ship, and they aren't making a pit stop on the moon; they're going straight to Mars. The duo has enjoyed a well-deserved breakout year on the heels of massive remixes, substantial festival appearances, and a unique 360° experience tour. They have scored slots supporting some of the most prominent artists in electronic music, and they aren't showing any signs of slowing down. Be sure to catch this jaw-dropping bass set to get that bass face warmed up for Kayzo and Ray Volpe.

Disco Lines

Disco Lines is having a come-up this year after a series of singles have found traction, bringing the DJ/Producer to new heights. Disco Lines is fresh off his performance at Elements Festival, and he is quickly becoming a household name for house fans. His high-energy sets are nothing to scoff at, and you'll enjoy his catchy hooks on repeat in your head for days after diving into his discography. Keep looking out for this rising star as he gets loose this year at Breakaway Mass!

MALAA

House legend MALAA is a flooring name to see on this lineup. I have been a fan for years, ever since I caught his high-octane set at Spring Awakening in 2017. MALAA is known for his out-of-this-world baselines and smooth styling. He brings heat to the speakers while keeping things fresh and cool on the dance floor. MALAA is one of my most anticipated acts for Breakaway, and I am so pumped to catch his set in a few weeks!

Kayzo

Known for his wicked metal and rock crossovers with bass music, Kayzo is a stunning name to see on the Breakaway lineup this September! His unique style that incorporates high-energy mixes and rapidly morphing rhythms has brought life to dance floors worldwide, and we are truly blessed to have such a killer act coming to town. I remember the first time I saw Kayzo; I caught just the last 5 minutes of his set at the tent stage at Moonrise 2017, just before San Holo took the stage. Kayzo played a killer remix of Porter Robinson's Sad Machine, and I knew I just had to catch a complete set. Since then, I've had the pleasure of experiencing numerous Kayzo sets, including a particularly hot one in Atlanta at Shaky Beats 2019, which he proclaimed at the time to be "the hottest he's ever been on stage" at the time.

The Breakaway lineup doesn't stop there - gracing the stage are also J. Worra, Jessica Audifred, Ray Volpe, ARMNHMR, Ayybo, Madds, Midnight Kids, Noizu, Costa, Sisko, 9b49, Breakbomb, Vinny Vibe, and many more acts at the Silent Disco. This festival is kicking things up a notch, from a fantastic kickoff in Boston last year to a stacked lineup in a new location this year. I hope you're just as excited about the show as I am - if you still need to grab tickets, you can do so here and secure your spot on official shuttles from Boston directly to the venue right here.

See you soon at the Palladium!
